Abigail Adams Gold Coin is the second coin in the First Spouse program started in 2007 by the US Mint to honour the spouses of the United States Presidents. Martha Washington gold coin was minted in second quarter of 2007 and as all coins of the series has a denomination of 10 dollars, gold composition of 0.9999 and gold content of 0.5000 oz. The coin weights 15.54, has a diameter of 26.49 mm, and 1.88 mm thick. The coin is issued in both proof and brilliant uncirculated finish.
Abigail Adams was the wife of the second President of the United States, John Adams. She was born as Abigail Smith in 1744, at Weymouth, Massachusetts. Abigail Smith met John Adams in 1759 and five years later they got married. They had five children together, including John Quincy Adams, the future President of the United States. Abigail Adams was very intelligent and supportive wife and her husband, John Adams, sought for her advice on many political matters. She is known also for her intensive correspondence she had with her husband during the Continental Congress. Abigail Adams died at the age of 73 of typhoid fever in 1818.
