Dolley Madison Gold Coin is the fourth coin in the First Spouse program started in 2007 by the US Mint to honour the spouses of the United States Presidents. Dolley Madison gold coin was minted in the last quarter of 2007 and as all coins of the series has a denomination of 10 dollars, gold composition of 0.9999 and gold content of 0.5000 oz. The coin weights 15.54, has a diameter of 26.49 mm, and 1.88 mm thick. The coin is issued in both proof and brilliant uncirculated finish.
Dolley Madison, or Dorothea Payne Todd Madison, was the wife of the forth president of the United States, James Madison. She was born as Dorothea Payne in 1768 in the state of North Carolina. In 1790, she married John Todd and had two sons with him. Her younger son and her husband died during a yellow fever epidemic broke out in Philadelphia in 1793. Dolley Todd was introduced to James Madison in 1794 and married him the same year. Dolley Madison was a noticeable and popular figure in the Washington while her husband was a president and long after. Dolley Madison died peacefully in her sleep in 1849 at the age of 81.
