Louisa Adams Gold Coin is the sixth coin in the First Spouse program started in 2007 by the US Mint to honour the spouses of the United States Presidents. Louisa Adams gold coin was minted in the second quarter of 2008 and as all coins of the series has a denomination of 10 dollars, gold composition of 0.9999 and gold content of 0.5000 oz. The coin weights 15.54, has a diameter of 26.49 mm, and 1.88 mm thick. The coin is issued in both proof and brilliant uncirculated finish.
Louisa Adams was the wife of the sixth president of the United States, John Quincy Adams. She was born as Louisa Catherine Johnson in 1775 in London. She met John Quincy Adams in 1794 in London when she was 19 and three years later they got married. First time Louisa arrived in the United States, was in 1801. She is still the only foreign-born First Lady. She had to travel a lot through her life following her husband on numerous diplomatic missions, as he was an emissary in many remote countries, including Russia. She died in 1852 at the age of 77.
