Bullion Gold Coins
HomeBullion Gold Coins are issued to attract buyers for investments in precious metals selling gold not in dull boring gold bars but rather as more attractive shiny gold coins. Historically, they were minted as trade coinage based on some common standards to help trading with foreigners or paying mercenaries without troubles of converting local currencies. One good example of a true bullion gold coin is the Ducat, which had been minted in many European countries for several centuries and is still minted by Austria. This page however is dedicated to the US Gold Bullion Coins and bullion gold coins of other countries are listed under corresponding country categories. American Gold Eagle Coins
American Gold Eagle Coins are official US bullion gold coins and have been minted since 1986. They come in four different sizes and denominations: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, respectively having denominations of $50, $25, $10, and $5. The composition of the coins is 22 karat (or 91.67% of pure gold). The obverse of the coin is the same as of the famous Saint Gaudens Double Eagle gold coins, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and considered to be one of the most beautiful coins designs at the time. American Buffalo Gold Coins
American Buffalo Gold Coins are relatively new comers on the market of bullion gold coins and they were minted only since 2006. They're official US gold bullion coins, come in weight of 1 troy ounce, and have composition of 24-karat (or 99.99% of pure gold). The design of the coin is similar (and just slightly modified) to the one of the Buffalo Nickel minted first time in 1913. This design was actually repeated first for the one dollar silver coin minted in 2001 and only in 2006 migrated into bullion gold coins. First Spouse Gold Coins
The First Spouse gold coins can be considered both as commemorative and as bullion. They're more of commemorative nature, as the subject of each coin is different every time it's minted, and they're commemorating US president's wives. The coins are half-ounce 24-karat gold coins with denomination of $10. The US Mint started this program to honour spouses of all US presidents and it's going in the same pace and order as the Presidential $1 Coin Program. Four coins, one coin every four months, will be issued each year until all presidents and their spouses are honoured. Follow this link to see current listings for First Spouse gold coins.
