Britannia 1987

Britannia 2007
The Britannia gold coin is an official bullion gold coin of the Great Britain and it was first minted in 1987. The Britannia is how the Romans called the British Isles and the Great Britain later. By one theory, the Celtic goddess Brigid was a predecessor and a prototype for Britannia, who was personified as a goddess soon enough.
The Britannia comparing to other gold bullion coins is somewhat different, as it doesn't have the same design from year to year, like American Gold Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, or Austrian Philharmonics. Not every year, but since the series started in 1987, it had several different designs. Moreover, each design is so thoroughly and artistically done that you can hardly put the Britannia gold coin in the same row as say a Krugerrand, which was always just a pure gold bullion. And that makes this even more interesting for collectors and investors.
Britannia was used on the UK coins since the 17th century, when it first appeared on the farthing in 1672. Later it was used for a number of British coins, including halfpenny, penny, and 50 pence coins. In 2008, it was decided to remove Britannia from the UK coinage and replace it with a new design, representing a more modern twenty-first century Britain. Yet, there are no plans to change designs of the Britannia gold coins, so we have many years ahead of enjoying these beautiful gold coins.
The Britannia gold coin comes in four different sizes, they're all have gold composition of 0.917 and their specifications as follows:
| Denomination | Gold Content | Weight | Diameter |
| 100 Pounds | 1 oz | 34.0500 g | 32.7 mm |
